Old faithfuls
Not all retro is old.
Classic-style platform games have seen a considerable resurgence in recent years. Many of these titles seek to mimic the look and feel of the 16-bit and 8-bit eras, with various degrees of success. One of the seminal examples is Shovel Knight, which ticked all the right boxes in following the NES style.
But for every success, there’s a handful of lesser-knowns who also deserve attention. And some of these underdogs mold themselves along the lines of other archetypes besides those that appeared on the NES. Today we’ll be looking at a few modern platform games that every retro gamer should try.
