Feel the RUSH
The team at Tango Gameworks have become known in recent years for their horror offerings like The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo. That’s not super surprising from a team headed up by Shinji Mikami, the father of Resident Evil. Their latest game however, revealed during today’s Xbox Developer Direct and surprise launching today on Xbox Series X|S and PC, is a huge departure from that. Hi-Fi RUSH instead puts players in a bright, colorful world where the power of music will keep you alive.
Chai is going nowhere, dreaming of being a rockstar, when he undergoes a procedure to get a robotic arm. It doesn’t go to plan, with his music player combined into his power unit, giving him killer power to feel the beat. It’s not pure upside though. The company doing the procedure deems this a failure and sets him up to be terminated. He’s going to need these new powers if he wants to survive.
A rhythm action game, you’ll have to fight Chai through a variety of levels that look to be absolutely filled with style. While the voice acting in the trailers may take some getting used to, the game’s colorful graphics look unlike anything we’ve seen from Tango in the past and definitely stand out. Players will need to feel the music as they chase high scores on each level as well. There’s even what looks to be a killer soundtrack, headlined by major rock acts like The Black Keys. The whole game definitely gives me big Scott Pilgrim vibes.
We should have more on this one in the days ahead with it being available today. We can’t wait to let you know what we think but you don’t have to wait for that. If you have Game Pass, Hi-Fi RUSH is available to download now.
