A Beautiful Abstract World
I don’t always agree with the opinions of IGN. But when they grouped Worldless under the banner of Awesome Indies, they were 100% accurate. Developed by Noname Studios in conjunction with Coatsink and Thunderful, Worldless is a stunning-looking Metroidvania coming to PC and Xbox in 2023. It takes place in a world of duality, where positive and negative charges determine everything. It’s a very abstract concept, but it’s lovingly envisioned. Below is a clearer idea of what to expect from the game:
Bask in an atmospheric, unforgettable setting that inspires and engages, and connect to the deeper meanings of Worldless with a haunting yet beautiful score. Define the undefined and uncover unimaginable possibilities with unique turn-based combat that focuses on action where style and mastery will be heavily rewarded. Jump, dash and even run on water as you navigate through an abstract existence in pursuit of your true purpose.
Combat in the game is apparently turn based, which is hard to wrap my head around after watching the footage of the game. But what I can tell clearly is exploration is highly intuitive, and combat is fierce and beautiful.
Honestly, the only Metroidvania I can compare this to is GRIS, which should tell you everything you need. While early 2023 might feel a long ways away, I have a feeling Worldless will be worth the wait. Check out the trailer below, and chime in if you are looking forward to this promising new indie vision.
