Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Isn’t Nioh 3, But If You Squint You Can See It

Lessons Learned

Wo Long

Team Ninja learned a lot of lessons making the Nioh games and while after putting out two of them they seem ready to try something else, that doesn’t mean they don’t want to use the lessons they learned on those titles in their latest. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a brand new game unrelated to past titles, but if you squint you could easily mistake it for a Nioh title.

Koei Tecmo fans might actually mistake it for a Dynasty Warriors game at first glance, but there’s clearly a lot more going on here from a combat perspective. You’ll play a soldier in a dark fantasy twist on the Han Dynasty. With demons threatening the Three Kingdoms, you’ll have to awaken your full power to withstand it.

Wo Long

Wo Long’s first trailer shows off a familiar face to those familiar with the Three Kingdoms as well, the great Lu Bu stands against you. This mix of the familiar and the new, with combat at least influenced by Nioh has me mighty intrigued. It’s set to launch early next year for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC.

Andrew Thornton
Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
