The Callisto Protocol Gets A Grip on Horror With New Gameplay Footage

The Callisto Protocol Shows Off A Bloody Good Time With New Gameplay From the Summer Game Fest

With The Callisto Protocol taking heavy nods from Dead Space, it’s finally time to see if the gameplay holds up to its inspiration. The Summer Games Festival showcases some wicked gore effects and how violently you can die, as well as some enemies and tools.

One of the things shown off is the Grip, a tool that acts kinda like the Gravity Gun from Half-Life. Glen Schofield, CEO of Striking Distance Studios, describes the tool as such, “We’re showcasing a new weapon called The Grip. It’s like a Gravity Gun, but it picks up the enemies, and it shoves them into giant fans, rips them apart, it’s great.

A couple of enemy types get shown, with a large bulky humanoid in the first section and an acid-spitting enemy in the second section. Both are equally grotesque and do well to show off the “alien infection” that’s taken them over.

Also, fans will be happy to know that Isaac Clarke’s famous mega-stomp will be returning for the new player character, the first few moments showing off the main character using his foot (read: hydraulic press) to mulch a corpse for some loot. To add to that, if you’ve ever wondered what a vertical turbine would do to a human, you’ll also get to see that too, because the gory, violent deaths Dead Space put the spotlight on are just as harrowing here on The Callisto Protocol.

While The Callisto Protocol does what it can to be its own thing away from Dead Space, you can see where the inspiration is, and with Glen Schofield behind the wheel, it’s got more than enough guts to make it big in the horror genre.

You can check out the full gameplay below in all its bloody, brilliant detail.

As always, stay tuned for the latest news and information for The Callisto Protocol!
