Witchfire Returns The Astronauts To Their Roots

Hell Hath No Fury

Witchfire

While their first title, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, may not have made you think about classic shooters, those are the games the development team at The Astronauts cut their teeth on when they worked on games like Painkiller and Bulletstorm at their former studio People Can Fly. Now they return to their lineage with their new title Witchfire.

Witchfire

Witchfire drops you in an alternate reality where witches are all too real and at war with the church. As the witch hunter, you’ll be armed with mystical weapons and powerful magic as you go to war with these shadowy foes, while working for just as shadowy employers. With roguelite elements incorporated, there will be plenty of variety to keep you coming back.

Witchfire is a dream project for us,” said The Astronauts Creative Director and Co-Founder, Adrian Chmielarz. “After The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, we’re back to familiar shooter territory, but with the benefit of 2022 graphics and design. Now we’re able to bring our dark fantasies to life with spine-tingling realism!”

Witchfire is set to launch in early access on the Epic Games Store later this year. Check out the first trailer below.

Andrew Thornton
Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
