The Last Of Us Multiplayer Still Coming, Now Its Own Game

First Details RevealedThe Last of Us

Even before the release of The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog revealed that a multiplayer mode was in development to follow up on the popular Factions mode from the original game. Before launch though the development team revealed that it wasn’t going to be ready day one. We eventually expected to hear about it as an update, but then no news ever came. Now we know why. During today’s Summer Game Fest, Naughty Dog revealed that this updated version of Factions is still coming, but its no longer part of The Last of Us Part II. It’s now its own standalone title.

For now details are limited, but the development did reveal a piece of art designed to get our minds working. Promising a huge scope, an open world set in San Francisco, and its own story, this definitely sounds like an intriguing project. It isn’t one we can expect to hear more about however until sometime next year. Check out the little we do know in the video below.

Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
