Horizon Call of the Mountain Brings Mighty Machines To PlayStation VR2

A Brand New Story, With Many Old Friends

Call of the Mountain

Earlier this year Sony and the team at Guerilla Games revealed Horizon Call of the Mountain, a new Horizon spin-off being made exclusively for PlayStation VR2. During today’s State of Play we got a new look and our first gameplay footage.

The vibrant world of Horizon is immediately in your face as you enter Call of the Mountain. This is a beautiful, colorful world and that shines through even in these early trailers. One of the game’s modes is even built around that, letting you float down a river with only occasional action while enjoying the views. That’s not the whole game though, this is still a Horizon game and there’s a whole other side to it. There you’ll control Ryas, a former member of the Shadow Carja investigating a threat to the Sundom.

Call of the Mountain

He’ll do it in all the ways you’d expect of a Horizon game. Fighting machines with a bow, climbing cliffs, moving all around. Along the way we’ll see plenty of familiar faces. Blameless Marad, a character fans of the series will recognize, is heard in today’s trailer and the development team have even promised Aloy will show up at some point. Still, for the first time we’ll see the series through a different character’s eyes. We’ll also apparently have to get used to floating hands if the trailers here are anything to go by. Not my favorite VR artifact in the best of times, in an immersive world like this it feels almost wrong. Still, the rest of the game still has my attention.

We’ll have more on Horizon Call of the Mountain as its revealed. For now, check out the new trailer below.

Andrew Thornton
Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
