Nintendo Download for 4/7/22

Spring Colors are Here

Nintendo Download | Mokoko X

Crazy as life has been these last few years, Spring always puts me in the mindset of renewal. And as such, the Nintendo Download for 4/7/22 starts the month off with some really great featured titles. It also has a couple special publisher sales for Spring, not to mention the usual Game Guide sales and digital tomfoolery. Let’s start with a game my gamer friends won’t shut up about.

Sweet, Sweet Vanillaware

Nintendo Download | 13 Sentinels

Friends of mine have been talking about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim since it was only on consoles I don’t own. And now that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch in a few short days, I suppose I better start paying attention in earnest. The Vanillaware RPG features the lush artwork the team is known for, sidescrolling adventure and top-down tactical combat against fierce kaiju. I’m honestly not sure what to make of that combination, but I look forward to trying 13 Sentinels out as early as next week. The next featured title is a remake and not a port. Some would call it a classic, though I don’t count myself in that crowd. The game is none other than Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. This remake features HD models, rejuvenated artwork, new content and much more besides. So if you want to see how this weird cousin of Chrono Trigger fares, you can check it out starting today. Since we’re on a remake track, let’s keep that going with The House of the Dead: Remake. Fans of the insane arcade series can try it out today. It adds a cool photomode as well as featuring achievements and updated graphics. Lastly, if you enjoy surviving the wilderness with a pal, try Don’t Starve Together. Now let’s continue the Nintendo Download with some special publisher sales.

Resurrected and Better Than Ever

Nintendo Download | The House of the Dead Remake

First up, Bandai Namco has a Spring sale to check out. It lasts from today until 4/20, and offers robust savings on more than twenty titles. Here is a list of my highlights – Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition, God Eater 3, Little Nightmares Complete Edition, Namco Museum, One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition, Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! and Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack.

Not to be outdone, Sega also has a Spring sale, though theirs only lasts until 4/17. They have even more games on sale, although several of them are much older classic games. Here’s my highlights – Citizens of Space, Persona 5 Strikers Digital Deluxe Edition, Sega Ages Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sega Ages Shinobi, Sonic Colors: Ultimate – Digital Deluxe, Sonic Mania, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, The Ultimate Sonic Bundle and Valkyria Chronicles 4 Complete Edition. And though we no longer cover 3DS games in the Nintendo Download, there’s a handful of really good ones on sale that you can check out. To try a tactics game with a twist, check out The Hundred Year Kingdom for $9.09. To matchmake in the apocalypse, try Lotus Reverie: First Nexus for $5.91. Or for a truly unique Shmup, try Risk System for $6.99. And for a heartwarming puzzle platformer, try Macrotis: A Mother’s Journey for $7.19.

For a visual novel, try Sakura Nova for $10.04. And lastly, fans of lush artwork and platforming can try Hoa for $10.49

Don’t Look in the Sewers…

Nintendo Download | Radioactive Dwarfs

Nearly done, but first some digital games to check out. Adventure game fans can try Chinatown Detective Agency and Happy’s Humble Burger Farm. For more arcade-based fun, try Double Shot Gals, Mokoko X and tERRORbane. For platforming, try Floogen, Pad of Time and World of One. To Shmup with some pups, try Astrodogs. Or to save doggos in the apocalypse, try The Last Friend. For games with puzzle elements, try the following – Kombinera, Princess Farmer and Springram. And for a tribute to retro gaming, try Radioactive Dwarfs: Evil From the Sewers.
