Apex Legends Next Generation Update Takes Flight

Now Available On PS5, Xbox Series X

Apex Legends

Fans of Apex Legends haven’t needed to hold onto old hardware to continue playing their favorite battle royale title. Thanks to the backwards compatibility of both systems, the game has been fully playable on the newest generation of hardware since launch. Still, today does mark a turning point for the game as true next generation versions of the title are now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

These updates bring a lot of improvements too. Native 4K visuals with HDR and 60hz gameplay to start with. Higher resolution shadows and greater levels of detail in the distance will further improve the look of the game. The developers are promising continued improvements over time as well, with future updates set to provide 120hz gameplay, further video and audio improvements, and further Dualsense support on the PS5.

PS5 owners will need to go into the store, locate the game, and specifically download the PS5 version. Xbox fans have it a little easier, with the system handling the update via Smart Delivery.

Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
