More Details Coming This Summer
After a week long countdown, Capcom have officially announced Street Fighter 6 thanks to a teaser trailer during the finale to last nights Capcom Pro Tour.
It’s a brief teaser for now. A perhaps slightly older looking Ryu is fighting Luke, the final DLC character from Street Fighter V who was revealed last year. His inclusion isn’t a surprise, when he was revealed Capcom pointed out that he’d play an important role in the next game in the series. Well, it seems that’s true, and I do quite like his new design.
That actually makes this whole reveal a bit anticlimactic. It’s nice to hear the next Street Fighter is coming, but Capcom explicitly told us they were in the character planning stage of that game last year. The teaser looks great, but there’s nothing new here to grasp onto. The character we knew was going to be in the game is shown, as is Ryu. Were we expecting Ryu wouldn’t be included? This isn’t the late 90s when Street Fighter III tried to leave the series’ roster behind for a brand new cast. I’d be shocked if any of the series’ major protagonists like Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li aren’t here.
The most exciting part of this announcement is likely that Capcom says they’ll have more to reveal this summer. I know I’ll be looking forward to hearing something new about Street Fighter 6. You certainly can watch the teaser below, however.
