A Free Next-Gen Upgrade Is Available For Current Owners
Ahead of the release of River City Girl 2 this summer, Wayforward is giving PS5 the owners the chance to experience the original adventure as a digital download.
River City Girls was initially released on Consoles and PC in 2019 and blends arcadey beat-em-up action and RPG style character growth. Players take on the role of Misako and Kyoko as they battle their way through River City in an effort to save their boyfriends Kunio, and Riki. River City Girls can be enjoyed as a single-player game but also offers co-op gameplay which allows Misako and Kyoko – who each have their own move sets – to team up and tear through waves of enemies.
Misako and Kyoko will battle through six regions over the course of the game, each with its own shops and side quests. Shops will allow players to equip the girls with power-ups, accessories, and weapons. Experience points can also be used to unlock abilities which include recruiting enemies after you defeat them, a unique mechanic that allows River City Girls to stand out in the beat-em-up genre.
River City Girls really is an all-star affair boasting pixel-art visuals, animated cutscenes, motion comic intermissions, and performances from well-known voice actors like Kira Buckland, Kayli Mills, and Greg Chun. Players will also be able to enjoy an award-winning synth-pop soundtrack from artists like NateWantsToBattle, Chipzel, and Megan McDuffee. The PlayStation 5 version of the game offers DualSense Audio and Activity functionality. Owners of the digital version of River City Girls on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra charge.
WayForward is hoping to bring more of their titles to PS5 over the coming months including Shantae, Shantae and the Pirates Curse, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens. River City Girls 2 is still on track for release this summer and will launch on PS5 and other platforms.
