FILMECHANISM | Featured

It’s only fair that in a day all about Indie World coverage, we touch on a Japanese Indie World darling. After Chemical Pudding and Phoenixx showed off puzzle platformer FILMECHANISM earlier, then it got a surprise release. FILMECHANISM has you controlling Rec, a camera humanoid who aims to record and puzzle their way through devious puzzles, split across 6 worlds and 200+ levels. All this set to a Gameboy-inspired aesthetic that is sure to tug on your nostalgia.

Intrigued? Here’s some more details about how FILMECHANISM plays:

FILMECHANISM | Zap

When necessary, ‘restore’ the level state, and suddenly elements transform from obstacles to helpful ways to reach the goal flag. Get to the other side of a pushable block by recording the level, pushing the block out of the way to get on the other side, then restore and push it left. Unlock a door blocking the way, then restore the level to return the door to its original state, and jump on top of it to reach new heights. Spikes that fell from the ceiling no longer block Rec’s path, and the goal flag might just be in reach!

It certainly sounds like a fascinating puzzle game. If you’re interested in checking FILMECHANISM out, here’s the good news. It’s playable on Steam and Switch, though as of right now the eShop link doesn’t appear to be live. But you can see how it plays in the trailer below. And stay tuned to HPP for more surprise reveals of indie titles.
