Such a Beautiful Sea
If you were a fan of The Messenger and wanted to experience more from the same universe, today will put a smile on your face. During the earlier Indie World, Sabotage Studio revealed more news about their upcoming turn-based RPG Sea of Stars. Not only is it a prequel to The Messenger, but it’s also a totally different genre. Instead of an action-packed Metroidvania, Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the likes of Chrono Trigger.
While backers and fans of Sabotage are likely already familiar with the game, here’s some highlights from the presentation. Firstly the game takes place in a world threatened by something called the Fleshmancer. To defeat this horrific entity, you’ll have to use the rare and powerful Eclipse magic. To do that, you’ll need a practitioner of both Sun and Moon magic to team up.
Sea of Stars not only features turn-based action, but the world itself is achingly gorgeous, with lush dynamic lighting. Better yet, you can explore the vast fantasy world at your own pace, finding hidden secrets along the way. Not exciting enough? Did I mention the composer of the soundtrack is none other than Yasunori Mitsuda, known for games like Chrono Trigger and Xenoblade Chronicles 2?
It’s never been a better time to be a backer of this game. I’m incredibly excited by what they showed off in a short trailer, and believe the game will manage to live up to or possibly overshadow The Messenger. The only bad news is that Sea of Stars is still a ways off, slated for a Holiday 2022 release. Fingers crossed it will be well worth the wait!
