He Arrives Just In Time
Following the release of an official teaser image from Crystal Dynamics, Spider-man has finally joined the roster of Marvel’s Avengers in a bombastic reveal trailer.
Spider-man’s addition to Marvel’s Avengers has been hotly anticipated for months and the reveal trailer gives us our first glimpse of web-head in action. The cinematic shows spidey take on multiple members of the villainous A.I.M organisation as he attempts to free captive Inhumans. Earth’s mightiest heroes are around to lend a hand and team up with Spider-Man to take out A.I.M in style.
Spider-Man’s hero event With Great Power is exclusive to PlayStation, although this is clearly a very different interpretation to Insomniac’s critically acclaimed take on the hero. It’s a safe bet based on the voice direction that this is a much younger take on Spider-Man and very similar to Tom Holland’s portrayal of the character.
The suit is the classic red and blue design but has taken a lot of influence from the MCU and is incredibly similar to the Stark Suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It’s also said that Peter Parker in this world is a hero that flies solo and has yet to reveal his identity to his fellow avengers.
Spider-Man’s story is not necessarily story-driven DLC, instead, it will be told through unlockable challenges in the Avengers Initiative. It remains to be seen whether this is the right direction for Spidey’s inclusion. There’s little indication of gameplay but it’s a sure thing that a gameplay reveal will be coming in the next few weeks. The update will also include a new raid that sees the Avengers face off against Klaw as he attempts to destroy Wakanda. The level cap will increase to 175 and a new shipment mechanic does away with micro-transaction and allows players to earn cosmetics in-game.
It’s fair to say that Marvel’s Avengers has had a really rough time since its launch and was even recently sold down the river by Square-Enix. Despite a valiant effort from the Black Panther-focused War for Wakanda things have never really turned around. It’s make or break for Marvel’s Avengers and it looks like it’s up to Spidey to save the day.
Spider-Man: With Great Power comes to Marvel’s Avengers on PS4 and PS5 November 30th.
