New Features Make the PS5 Even Better
Sony have announced that the second major PS5 software update will roll out today. It brings a wide selection of enhancements to the system, providing an even better experience.
Let’s start with the big ones. For those fretting about the limited hardware space on the new system, this is a big one. This update will roll out the ability to play games directly from M.2 SSD expanded storage. This will work for PS5 games, PS4 games, and media apps. As someone who has to clear games regularly, this could be a nice option. I just may have to contact Rumpelstiltskin to see how much I can get for my firstborn to afford it.
If you’re not into bartering your future offspring, there’s still things to get excited about. This update will roll out 3D Audio for regular TV speakers. This feature has been available as part of the official PlayStation 3D Audio headset for some time, but now you’ll be able to use it right on your TV.
A few visual enhancements round things out. PS5 and PS4 versions of the same game will now each get their own tile instead of sharing one. They’ll be clearly marked as well. You’ll be able to customize your control center, allowing you to rearrange or hide icons. You can now send and receive messages with friends from Game Base in the control center as well.
A few enhancements are coming to other PlayStation products as well. An update to remote play will let you stream your console to your phone over mobile data as well. Useful when there’s no Wi-Fi around. You’ll be able to control the stream quality to limit data use. You’ll also now be able to view share screen broadcasts right from the PlayStation App, letting you stay in touch with friends when not at your system.
There’s a lot more coming, detailed in Sony’s announcement. Check it out and let us know what you think in the ocmments below.
