Ragnarök Comes For God Of War

Will You Defend The Nine Realms?

Ragnarök

Fans of 2018’s God of War have been waiting a long time for news on the follow up. Over the last year we had a few peaks behind the curtain, but with only a brief teaser it was hard to know what to expect. That’s no longer the case. It’s time to face Ragnarök.

Officially titled God of War: Ragnarök, this one will pick up a few years after the 2018 title. Following your defeat of Baldur, Kratos has gone back to trying to protect his son Atreus from his fate. With Atreus knowing at least some of his past though, and his destiny to become Loki, its hard to keep the teenager in line. If anyone can put someone in their place with a stern look though, its Kratos.Ragnarök

You’ll have two main foes in Ragnarök. Freya wants revenge for the death of her son Baldur while Thor looks to get revenge for the death of his sons and brother in the previous game. Seems like a real family affair. This is a different take on Thor than Marvel fans are used to, but you’ll see a few familiarities. He still controls the thunder and wields the mighty Mjölnir. Kratos will again fight with both his axe and the Blades of Chaos.

You’ll visit lands missing from the previous title such as Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and even Asgard. Along the way you’ll even spend some time with the Norse God of War, Tyr. From the looks of things in the trailer he’ll  have a prominent role to play.

Santa Monica Studio haven’t revealed a release date yet but I think we’re all hoping to get to check out Ragnarök in 2022. Check out the full trailer below and let us know what you think.

Andrew Thornton
Andrew has been writing about video games for nearly twenty years, contributing to publications such as DarkStation, Games Are Fun, and the E-mpire Ltd. network. He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
