New Metroid Dread Trailer Highlights Enemies New And Old

Dread The Return Of An Old Friend

Metroid Dread

Metroid fans excited to finally help Samus take on a new adventure don’t have much longer to wait. Metroid Dread is set to release October 8th, just over a month away. While previous trailers have focused largely on EMMI, a robot foe which won’t stop chasing Samus, that’s not the only foe you’ll be facing during this adventure.

For fans of the series, the return of Kraid may be the story here. Originally appearing in the series’ very first title, he also had a role in Super Metroid. That was the last original title in the series where he appeared, until now. While Kraid’s return is a big deal, that may not even be the most surprising appearance here. A living Chozo shows up, attacking Samus. The Chozo are a highly advanced race which raised Samus but were mostly thought dead. Apparently at least one remains, and you’ll have to deal with them.

The trailer also highlights a variety of moves Samus will have access to in Metroid Dread. Old favorites like the screw attack, shinespark, and speed booster return. She’ll have new abilities as well however, like the flash shift which lets you shift a short distance forwards or backwards in an instant. I can definitely think of moments in past Metroid titles where that would have come in handy.

Enough from me, watch the trailer for yourself and see all of the great abilities you’ll be able to use in just over a month. Are you looking forward to playing Metroid Dread this October? Let us know in the comments below.

He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
