Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC pummels its way onto consoles and PC on July 15
Beat ’em up fans are in for a treat later this month. French publisher Dotemu and developers Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube announced today that Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC will release on consoles and PC on July 15.
The DLC, which is priced at $7.99, will add fully fleshed-out versions of Shiva, Max Thunder, and Estel Aguirre to play as, new music courtesy of Sonic Mania composer Tee Lopes, and an all-new take on SoR 4’s Survival Mode.
In Mr. X Nightmare’s Survival mode, you must pummel endless waves of enemies. As you defeat your opponents, you’ll unlock perks that will last as long as you can survive across two session variations: Random, which features unpredictable, generated runs; and Weekly, static gauntlets generated each week.
To celebrate today’s announcement, Dotemu released a new trailer showcasing what’s in store when the DLC releases on July 15. Check it out below:

In addition to the Mr. X Nightmare DLC, the publisher also announced a separate DLC will launch on the same day. This update includes an in-depth training system, color palette options, the Mania+ difficulty mode, and balancing tweaks and refinements based on community feedback.
I scored the game a near-perfect score in my review last year, saying “Streets of Rage 4 is the gold standard for what a beat ’em up should be and a triumphant return to form for the series.” In case you’ve yet to play it, you can find our full rundown here.
Streets of Rage 4 is now available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
