Battlefield 2042 Launches October 22nd, No Single Player-Mode

Fight Through A Devastated World

Battlefield 2042

EA took the veil off their newest Battlefield title this morning. Battlefield 2042 will launch on October 22nd. It will be an entirely multi-player experience with no single player mode planned.

Battlefield 2042 drops us into a world devastated by extreme weather. The United States and Russia are ready to go to war. You’ll fight for control of constantly changing maps and a changing world.

2042 will feature seven huge maps designed for the large scale battles Battlefield revolves around. Unique combat areas in each provide unique gameplay areas. Vehicles and on foot combat will each have room to shine.

“Battlefield 2042 is an evolution of the franchise and embraces what our players want – the ultimate Battlefield multiplayer sandbox with intense combat and a ton of incredible, unexpected events,” said Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of DICE. “All of us across DICE in Stockholm, DICE LA, Criterion, and EA Gothenburg have had so much fun developing this game and now it’s time to let players jump in. What they’ll find is that we’ve built three distinct, absolutely epic experiences that we think they’ll love.”

All-Out Warfare mode will provide modern versions of classic Conquest and Breakthrough modes. A new Hazard Zone mode promises an entirely new multi-player experience.

A third mode is in development by DICE LA. They promise it is a love letter to series fans and will be revealed during EA PLAY Live on July 22nd.

Pre-orders will include early access to an open beta later this year. Battlefield 2042 will launch on a wide variety of platforms with a few differences between the versions.

Those playing on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to purchase the game for $59.99. Those on PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will pay $69.99 but will see modes featuring 128 players, a first for the series. PS4 and Xbox One matches will be limited to 64 players. PC players will get the best of both worlds with a $59.99 price while still enjoying matches with 128 players.

Battlefield 2042 is available for pre-order now. A Gold Edition and an Ultimate Edition are available as well for those who want extra goodies. Will you be jumping in this fall? Let us know what you think and check out the first trailer below.

He enjoys most genres but is always pulled back to classic RPG's, with his favorite games ever including Suikoden II, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Phantasy Star IV. Don't worry though, he thinks new games are cool too, with more recent favorites like Hades, Rocket League, and Splatoon 2 stealing hundreds of hours of his life. When he isn't playing games he's often watching classic movies, catching a basketball game, or reading the first twenty pages of a book before getting busy and forgetting about it.
