Ghost of Tsushima Movie Is Officially Happening

See Jin Sakai in the flesh

Ghost of Tsushima Movie

On March 25, 2021, Sucker Punch Game Director Nate Fox released a statement on the PlayStation Blog announcing that their award-winning game Ghost of Tsushima was going to be turned into a Hollywood feature film.

Ghost of Tsushima debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2020 and immediately won critical praise, becoming a massive worldwide hit and selling 6.5 million copies as of March 2021 (check out our Ghost of Tsushima review here).

“Ghost of Tsushima movie is in the works!” said Nate Fox in the statement. “The idea of translating our game into a new medium is exciting, and we’re intrigued by the possibilities. To think that we could sit in the theater someday watching Jin Sakai up on the big screen is amazing. We’d all relive his tense transformation into the Ghost from a whole new vantage point.”

Having recently been made an honorary ambassador for the real-life island of Tsushima by its mayor, Nate Fox urged fans to visit the island as soon as it is safe to do so.

“The island is beautiful, the people are warm, and the history is all around you. If you’re very, very lucky you’ll spot a Tsushima Cat. Then later, when the Ghost of Tsushima movie comes out, you can tell your friends about how you’ve been to the beach where the Mongols landed.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, this film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima will be a joint venture between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, with Sucker Punch also serving as executive producers. It will also be directed by Chad Stahelski, who directed the John Wick film franchise.

It is not yet known if Japanese-American actor Daisuke Tsuji will reprise his role as the lead character Jin Sakai in the feature film.

Ghost of Tsushima will be the second film adaptation of a video game co-produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, with Uncharted now in post-production and set to be released in February 2022.
