A Crow’s Purpose
Sometimes all it takes to hook a player is the aesthetic of a game. And Death’s Door is bursting at the seams with quirky style. In the game, you play a Crow. Not your standard carrion thief, either. You’re a human sized avian and also a reaper of souls. Which honestly makes perfect sense. Your usual routine of soul reaping is interrupted by drama when someone steals an assigned soul, and you have to go retrieve it.
Developed by Acid Nerve (the folks behind Titans Souls) and published by the venerable Devolver Digital, Death’s Door is a delightfully offbeat action-adventure game coming to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC this Summer. It was revealed earlier today during the ID@XBox Twitch Gaming Showcase.
If you’re eager for more details about Death’s Door, read this quick blurb from the PR:
Death’s Door thrusts players into a quirky and curious world where Crows are in charge of collecting the souls of the dead. Reaping souls and punching a clock might get monotonous but it’s honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death – where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.
Venturing forth from the Hall of Doors, explore a land full of twisted inhabitants and countless secrets, bringing hope to the weird and wonderful characters you’ll meet along the way. Wield and upgrade melee weapons, arrows and magic as you track down and defeat colossal tyrants with stories and motivations of their own.
I personally think the game looks quite promising, and the visual style already has me captivated. Fans of quirky action-adventure can enjoy this soul reaping adventure in a few months.
