Returnal’s Story Trailer Welcomes Players To Atropos

Roguelike shooter Returnal tries to throw players for a loop with its newest story trailer

With the game’s launch less than two months away, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Finnish video game developer Housemarque have released a new gameplay trailer for Returnal.

In the latest footage for the game, which launches exclusively for the PlayStation 5 next month, we watch ASTRA scout Selene explore Atropos’ alien landscape. The trailer showcases the horrors she’ll encounter—both living and through haunting visions—as well as the game’s fast-paced combat, as she attempts to discover the source of a strange signal and piece together her shattered memories. Combining a haunting narrative and roguelike-style gameplay where the planet changes every time the player dies to create limitless loops, Returnal absolutely looks to be an exciting addition to the PS5’s library.

Want to soak up the frantic gunplay and haunting atmosphere? Go ahead and check out the new trailer below:

First announced at Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal stream last June, Returnal was initially supposed to release on March 19, 2021. However, Sony issued a statement in January to announce they had made the decision to delay the game a month, saying “SIE and Housemarque have made the decision to move the release date in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque.”

If all goes as planned (and we have every reason to believe it should), Returnal will release on April 30, 2021.

So, what do you think of the look of the latest offering from the developer of Nex Machina and Resogun? Are you excited to explore the hostile landscape of Atropos when the game launches next month? As always, we love to hear what you think. Sound off in the comments section and let us know.
