Time to Jump Back Into the Basement!
Today Nicalis has revealed a release window for the latest in The Binding of Isaac series. As someone who has been waiting on Repentance for a long time, this is very welcome news. It was previously forecast that The Binding of Isaac Repentance was coming to Steam this March. But as someone that lives or dies by my console, I was especially curious about when that was happening, and for which consoles. Now we know that Repentance is slated to release on Switch, PS4 and PS5 in Q3 of 2021. Admittedly that’s a bit of a wait compared to the Steam release, but I’m sure it will be worth it.
The twisted classic is getting a big shot in the arm via Repentance. For proof, here’s a direct quote from creator Ed McMillen:
Described by Isaac creator Edmund McMillen as “the best version of Isaac” and the game that “makes Isaac feel complete to me,” Repentance takes the series to new heights of roguelike dungeon adventure, as the tear-shooting toddler descends deeper into the basement for his most unbelievable challenges yet.
As for those wondering about the volume of new content present here, the easy answer is a metric ton. Repentance is slated to feature a brand new ending pathway, including a new final boss. Additionally, it’s gonna have cooperative play for up to 4 players, balance updates and hundreds of new items. It’ll even feature 2 new playable characters, new enemies and harrowing new challenges. And because this is an Edmund McMillen game, you know it’ll be bursting at the seams with sneaky secrets as well.
Though I’m a relatively new convert to The Binding of Isaac, I’m really hyped for Repentance. Especially since it will get a sexy physical edition. Now to not so patiently wait months and months for what I hope to be hundreds of hours of new basement diving fun!
