Doggos, The Apocalypse and a Bad Robot
One of the most surprising Metroidvanias I’ve ever played was Gato Roboto. It’s not many games that let you play as a cat inside a destructive mech suit of death, after all. And as a fan of the feline species, I found it to be a lot of silly fun. But what if they took the zany style of games like Gato Roboto and mixed it in a blender with Cave Story? The game you got would be a lot like DOGWORLD.
Let me just get this out of the way – though I’m much more of a cat person, I still like dogs. They’re charming and lovable, not to mention loyal. But would they be quite so endearing if they were the dominant species on Earth? Well let’s hope so, cause that’s the basic premise of the game. It all starts with the destruction of Earth. You’re a lone human that managed to wake up from your subterranean pod early, much to the chagrin of an angry AI named Daddy. As the only human on Earth, you wield a fancy gun and befriend many doggos.
DOGWORLD looks and sounds charming, with a distinct black and white aesthetic and frantic combat. If you like what you’re hearing, you’ll be happy to know that DOGWORLD is coming to Steam on March 18th. Better yet, a Switch version is in the works, but only if we’ve been very good boys and girls. I’m very excited to see what sort of mayhem unfolds in this quirky Metroidvania.
