Nintendo Download for 12/17/20

Get Ready to Deck the Halls with Gaming!

Nintendo Download | Override 2

Perhaps in the mood of the season, this Nintendo Download is completely bursting at the seams with fun. Not only are there the usual featured titles, sales and digital games, but there’s some other unusual fare. There’s new classics coming to Switch Online, a demo for an upcoming game, anime on Switch and much more. But let’s start with a pairing of hardcore platforming and classic RPGs.

But First, Something Meaty

Nintendo Download | Super Meat Boy Forever

Somewhere over the years, I became a bit of a hardcore platformer enthusiast. Not intentionally, mind you. It just kind of happened after years of jumping on Goombas as Mario. Which is why I’m quite hyped about the pending release of Super Meat Boy Forever. I actually got to demo it years back at PAX West, and despite dying repeatedly, I really enjoyed myself. I’m very pleased it’s finally coming to Switch in just a week or so, even though I fully expect to become a bloody mess. The other featured title in this Nintendo Download is a bit different. It’s a compilation of several truly retro RPGs. The game itself is COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND. It features several Game Boy Final Fantasy games, including some I’ve never played myself. Next up, let’s continue with some new titles coming to Switch Online.

  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! – Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have gone missing. As Dixie Kong checks in with the rest of the family, she gets stuck with babysitting duties! But that won’t stop her from going on her next adventure. Play as Dixie Kong or Kiddy Kong solo, against a friend or with a friend. Take advantage of their abilities as they throw each other into action in over 40 levels. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! will be available on Dec. 18.
  • The Ignition Factor – Intense firefighting action puts you in the heat of the moment. Take control of a brave firefighter as he battles to save people from towering infernos and flame-filled factories. Keep your cool to rescue all the victims. Get them out of the fire and back to safety! will be available on Dec. 18. The Ignition Factor will be available on Dec. 18.
  • Super Valis IV – A reddish moon calls forth evil, and the bells toll for battle. Take on the role of Lena, the only warrior able enough to wield the Valis sword against the forces of evil in this action platformer. The longer you take clearing a stage, the stronger the boss at its end will get. Dash, jump and use the items you collect along the way to traverse all seven stages. Super Valis IV will be available on Dec. 18.
  • Nightshade – Sutekh has blanketed Metro City under a shroud of crime and corruption. The big crime bosses now answer only to him. To avenge his fallen idol, Mark Gray dons the guise of Nightshade, the last person standing between Sutekh and total control of Metro City. Using a combo of point-and-click and action gameplay styles, stalk the streets of Metro City in search of vengeance. Nightshade will be available on Dec. 18.

Return To an Excillant World

Nintendo Download | Bravely Default II

That’s pretty exciting, but this next bit of Nintendo Download news really has me hyped. Especially since I love modern games that feature old school elements.

  • Experience the Enchanting World of Excillant – The BRAVELY DEFAULT II game launches for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 26, 2021, but you can begin playing a new final demo for the game today, available in Nintendo eShop. If you took the first demo for a spin, the BRAVELY DEFAULT II development team has incorporated player feedback from that experience in this new demo, which covers the first main chapter of the game and more closely represents the final BRAVELY DEFAULT II gameplay experience. Downloading the demo before the game’s launch will give you a taste of the vivid art and strategic gameplay you can expect from the game, and it will also earn you 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points!**

Don’t wander off yet. There’s one more unusual news piece for today’s Nintendo Download. It’s especially exciting for fans of anime.

  • Start Watching Anime on Nintendo Switch Today – Watch a massive collection of English-dubbed anime and hundreds of subtitled shows from Japan on Funimation. Stream a huge library of ad-free anime in HD on your Nintendo Switch, including movies, OVAs, extras and – best of all – the hottest, top-trending shows like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, My Hero Academia, Fruits Basket, Black Clover, Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball. Funimation subscription benefits include up to five simultaneous streams on one account. Stream for two weeks free and begin your anime adventure today.

Okay, now that all those extracurricular details are dealt with, let’s continue the Nintendo Download with some sales. But before we have the basic discounts, there’s a timely holiday sale happening courtesy of Bandai Namco. They’re having a Winter Meltdown sale from today until the end of the month. It includes 25 different games, but I’m gonna only list those with the deepest discounts. Here’s those titles – Disney TSUM TSUM FESTIVAL, DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ, DRAGON BALL Xenoverse 2, GOD EATER 3, Katamari Damacy REROLL, MY HERO ONE’S JUSTICE, Ni No Kuni, ONE PIECE Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition, ONE PIECE: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition, SUPER DRAGON BALL HEROES WORLD MISSION, SWORD ART ONLINE: FATAL BULLET Complete Edition, SWORD ART ONLINE: Hollow Realization Deluxe Edition and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! All the Stocking Stuffers

Nintendo Download | Crawlco Block Knockers

Hope you’re not tired of savings yet, cause here’s some more for cheaper Switch games. If you love horror and stylish art, you might wanna check out The Coma: Recut and The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, both for $8.99 each. Fans of indies that also love fighting games should check out Bounty Battle for only $9.99. Or if you enjoy rogue ghostbusting, try Dead End Job for $6.79. Lastly, fans of tactical RPGs absolutely are doing themselves a disservice by not owning Wargroove. It’s half off at $9.99 right now, and it’s easily one of my favorite games of the past couple years.

Some Hidden Presents

Nintendo Download | Mercenaries Blaze

Now, pull out those wallets one more time, cause these Nintendo Download sales are still worth checking out. If you love retro, you absolutely need to play Tanuki Justice. It’s only $11.99 for now. Fans of stunning artwork and a compelling story might prefer Röki for $11.99 instead. If you love Metroidvanias, you might have missed MindSeize. It’s definitely worth a look now that it’s only $17.99. To beat up some foes, try Streets of Rage 4 for $17.49. Finally, you can double dip with the Valfaris & Slain Double Pack. It’s quite enticing at only $13.99.

Bursting at the Seams

Nintendo Download | Shady Part of Me

This extra large Nintendo Download is almost over, but we can’t finish without some digital goodies. I actually had to cull this list down more than usual, just cause there was such a mixed bag of titles. But there’s still a ton of compelling ones. For retro fans, you should check out Arcade Archives MARKHAM. Strategy fans have a lot to enjoy – Crawlco Block Knockers, Grindstone, Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons, Smart Moves, Traditional Tactics Ne+ and When the Past was Around. Adventure fans might enjoy Dark Arcana: The Carnival. While fans of multiplayer mayhem should check out Among Us and Override 2: Super Mech League. Fans of platforming should investigate Shady Part of Me, Touhou Luna Nights and Unto the End. SHMUP enthusiasts can take a blast with Space Invaders Forever. And you can wrangle kitties in Calico.

Happy Holidays!

Nintendo Download | Touhou Luna Nights

Whew. That was a massive Nintendo Download. Apologies for the lateness, but it takes extra time to write up this many games. Thanks as always for joining HPP for your weekly Nintendo Download, and be sure to tune in next week!
