Phantom Breaker Gets Physical!
The Phantom Breaker series has lurked on the outer periphery of my consciousness for a few years now. I remember reading all about Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, but never really experienced it for myself. The good news is, soon me and many others will have the opportunity to learn more in Phantom Breaker: Omnia.
Phantom Breaker: Omnia technically came out in 2013 outside of the West. But now, we’re getting an updated version of the hardcore 2D fighting game, complete with a roster of 20 characters! The game will include 3 different playstyles (Quick, Hard and Omnia), as well as a remixed soundtrack and dual language audio. It also has lush animation and fluid artwork. But if you’re as unfamiliar with the nuances of the series as I am, take a gander at the plot points below:
Story
A mysterious man, known only as ‘Phantom’ appeared in Tokyo—the capital city of Japan—and manipulated vulnerable adolescents into fighting each other, bestowing upon them mystical weapons of great strength known as ‘Fu-mension Artifacts.’ In exchange, he promised to grant their wish if they survive.
Unbeknownst to the combatants, the fierce clashes between Fu-mension Artifacts caused distortions in space-time, which compromised the boundaries between parallel universes. The collapse of these parallel universes would ultimately break the seal, unleashing Phantom’s destructive powers.
If that wasn’t enough, Phantom Breaker: Omnia also has some incredible voice talents behind it, including the likes of Cristina Vee, Amber Connor, Matt Mercer and many more! But today’s not just about playing catchup. It’s also to showcase a rocking new trailer from the game. It features a fight between Waka and Sophia, and showcases the dynamic gameplay in the fighter.
I’m much more invested in Phantom Breaker after refreshing my memory today. If you like what you’ve heard, you’ll be happy to know Omnia is coming to PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. And courtesy of Limited Run Games, it’s gonna get physical editions for PS4 and Switch as well. MAGES, GameLoop and Rocket Panda Games might have a winner on their hands here. Be sure to stay tuned to HPP for more news about Omnia as it hits. And as always, check out the awesome trailer at the end!
