Oh, we’re being serious, all right.
Wow. It’s been nearly a decade since Serious Sam 3: BFE was released. Many new Serious Sam games have appeared since, including a fourth entry into the franchise. Yet it seems that cyberpunk games are wallowing in obscurity, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Nightdive Studio’s release of Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition. Well, the good news is that now we can use one game to experience the other! Sorta.
Blade Runner: Cells Interlinked 2021 is a total conversion mod for Serious Sam 3: BFE that serves as a prequel to the short anime film Blade Runner 2049 – “Black Out 2022”. Players take on the role of Trixie, a prototype Nexus 8 replicant who was stolen by a rival corporation so she may be disassembled and reverse-engineered. Waking up, she has to escape her captors and find replicant sympathizers if she has any hope of a future as a person instead of a disposable product.
The mod is almost a completely different game, with as much as 90% new content. Don’t expect the typical Serious Sam gameplay. There’s no hordes and insane weapons; instead, the experience leans towards a slower-pace, cerebral experience.
If you want to give the mod a try, and you happen to own Serious Sam 3: BFE with Fusion installed, then head on over to the Steam Workshop here and follow the instructions to install. In the meanwhile, have a gander at the video below to decide if this total conversion will be a feature in YOUR future. If you’ve played it, please let us know what you think of it in the comments section!
