The Wait Is Nearly Over!
The past few days have been full of amazing gaming news, and today is no exception. I’ve been excited about Skeleton Crew Studio’s Olija since I first saw it in the Devolver Direct. I was struck by the rapid-fire violence and fluid yet old school art style. And though they announced it would have a demo available, I’ve been waiting to try said demo for months. Well, soon that wait will be over.
Today Devolver revealed that Olija is slated to release sometime early in 2021. Better yet, they showcased the gameplay elements in a trailer below. Best of all, we now have some understanding of the actual setting of the game courtesy of the PR:
“Olija is a game about Faraday’s quest, a man shipwrecked then trapped in the mysterious country of Terraphage. Armed with a legendary harpoon, he and other castaways try to leave this hostile country to return to their homelands.
Through adventurous exploration, narration and razor sharp combat, the player will discover a strange world and its inhabitants, including Olija, an enigmatic lady that Faraday finds himself bound to over time. Inspired by swashbuckling tales and cinematic adventure games, Olija is a story about facing the unknown in adversity.”
I’m certainly intrigued by a game about a man with a legendary harpoon, not to mention a mysterious woman. Honestly, any time I get to play a shipwrecked possible pirate is a good day. But if you’re not convinced yet, then you might be happy about the console update. Olija was already slated to release on PC and Nintendo Switch. Now it’s also coming to Xbox One and PS4! Oh and if you, like myself, wanted to demo it, there’s good news there too. Though the Switch doesn’t have a demo yet, Steam does!
So if you love dark action games with hideous creatures and intrigue, stay tuned for Olija news. I know I will!
