Time To Fire Up the Forge Once More
I think I’ve discussed how I’m a big fan of niche and indie games. I also love me some beautiful spritework and pixel art. Which is why I’m such a big fan of Tribute Games. I’ve been following them for a few years now. Recently they started helping other indies publish their games, but they’ve been making their own for a while. Though they’ve always developed great looking titles, I think the zenith of their talent was the recently released Panzer Paladin. I actually had the privilege of reviewing it at my old site, and it truly was outstanding.
The reason all that’s relevant is cause Tribute has upped the ante for Panzer Paladin today. They just released a free Challenge Core update. Not only does it add that titular mode to the game, but it also had a slew of other improvements, including leaderboards, speedrun and even a new 8-bit soundtrack! Challenge Core itself is a mode where you test your skill against 11 rooms full of mischief as you try and nab all the deviously placed Cores.
Those are all amazing, but the real treat for me is the following. The Challenge Core update has increased the amount of items you can forge and store in Blacksmith mode! This mode lets you design your own weapons, set various parameters and then randomly acquire these weapons in the game itself. Sure you can make standard swords, tridents and clubs, but you can also go nuts. I personally made a giant lollypop and clown hammer amongst my other “weapons”. I really love the Blacksmith mode in Panzer Paladin, and the only downside was how many weapons you could store. So this update really seals the deal for me.
If you’re not already familiar with Panzer Paladin, I’d recommend you check it out. It’s available for Steam and Nintendo Switch, and it features tight yet challenging gameplay. It’s easily one of my favorite games of the year, and that says something with so much competition. If nothing else, be sure to check out the trailer below as it glosses over all the features I mentioned.
