1. Resident Evil 4
Rated one of the greatest Horror games of all-time, Resident Evil 4 redefined yet again what was possible in both action and horror video gaming. Between the surprising new jump scares, gothic level designs and challenging new enemies (What do you mean headshots only make things worse?!), Resident Evil 4 was able to put a fresh spin on the genre. All by deconstructing and innovating outside of the box in gaming. Much like its predecessors, this game also introduced groundbreaking new features in video game history, with the incorporation of quick-time events, adding innumerable types of possible death fatalities, and most importantly, inventing the over-the-shoulder camera now used in every third-person shooter video game.
Resident Evil 4 is hands down a masterpiece way beyond its time. A game that has aged well since its original iteration and one whose added contribution to gaming history are still heavily in use today.
But that’s everything in this truly groundbreaking decade in horror gaming. We hope you’ve enjoyed this list thus far. Feel free to comment or check out last week’s list of the 90s in comparison if you like, as we’ve got one more to come. Our final horror video games ranking of the 2010s.
