Meow!
Looking for the purrfect excuse to replay Super Mario 3D World? How about the upgraded Switch port arriving next February? As revealed in today’s Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct, the beloved Wii U platformer’s heading to Nintendo Switch, and it’s coming with some claw-some new gameplay features — not the least in an entire new mode called Bowser’s Fury. (Or should we say: Bowser’s Furry? Wait, that has an entirely different connotation…) Check out the new trailer below!
Upon first glance, the base game might not seem so different, but the game’s official site reveals an exciting new feature: online multiplayer! That’s right: Super Mario 3D World is now the first 3D Mario to feature netplay, so now the four-player stomping grounds of Sprixie Kingdom can be enjoyed with friends around the world. We foresee endless cases of “Murdering Luigi by throwing him off the level” in the near future — kitty mischief and all.
Meanwhile, not much is known about Bowser’s Fury — the fur-boding name and dreary atmosphere likely implies a rough challenge rivaling even that of the infamous Champion’s Road, but check out all that open space! Might 3D World be taking a page from the Super Mario Odyssey playbook? Purrsonally, I feel this is Nintendo’s big chance to incorporate a much-needed cat’s tower level, but regardless, we’ll find out more about Bowser’s latest scheme at a later date.
