The updated version of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends doubles the stages, adds iconic villain Baron von Blubba into the mix
While a bit of a fleeting experience, Bubble Bobble 4 Friends proved to be a triumphant return to form for Taito’s beloved puzzle-platformer series when it arrived on the Switch earlier this year (you can read our review here). Now, Taito and publisher ININ Games are aiming to expand upon that short but oh-so-sweet release with Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back!
Set to release both physically and digitally later this year, Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back! doubles the number of stages with 100 new and unique levels to master while adding the indomitable baddie Baron von Blubba (known as Skel-Monsta in Japan) and online rankings.
If you already purchased the Switch version of the game, don’t worry. You’ll be able to download The Baron is Back! for free at launch.

We scored Bubble Bobble 4 Friends a 3.5 out of 5 in our review back in March saying:
“The game’s brevity aside, Bubble Bobble 4 Friends is a blast while it lasts. I love the new upgradable skills, which add an extra layer of depth to the arcade antics without trying to reinvent the wheel. And the ability to participate in multiplayer mayhem with four players makes Taito’s latest offering one of the most enjoyable party games to find its way to the Switch to date. “
So, will you be picking up this updated version of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends when it releases later this year? If so, which platform will you be playing on? We love to hear what you think, so be sure to let us know in the comments below.
