Once again played from a first-person perspective, Resident Evil 8: Village stars Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield as they fight to survive against occult terrors
Capcom today revealed that Resident Evil 8: Village is currently in development for the PlayStation 5 during today’s PS5: Future of Gaming presentation.
Set several years after the events of the previous game, once again stars RE7’s protagonist Ethan Winters, who is trying to rebuild his life with his rescued girlfriend Mia following the events from the previous game.
Like RE7, the game features a first-person perspective but will have a greater emphasis on combat and exploration this time around, according to Capcom. Unlike previous games in the series, which focus viral monstrosities and bioweapons, this time around the game’s story will focus more on myth and the occult – complete with supernatural creatures and werewolves. At the end of the trailer, we also learn that a rather grim-looking S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team member and BSAA operative Chris Redfield will also be playing a significant role in the game’s story this time around.

“Resident Evil Village is using its expertise with Capcom’s in-house RE Engine to bring a truly next-generation survival-horror experience to PS5,” said Kellen Haney, Associate Manager, Social Media & Community, Capcom USA in a PlayStation Blog post. “You may have caught a few bits and pieces of how the engine is being used in the enigmatic trailer that was shown during The Future of Gaming, providing ultra-realistic environments and characters that inhabit a strange, snow-capped village.”
Resident Evil 8: Village will launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2021.
