With Doom Eternal out and shaking the gaming world once again, it may be prudent to take a look back the roots of the series. The original Doom was released way back in 1993 and changed the gaming industry forever. It’s nearly 30 years later, and although many games have come and gone over the decades, the classic Doom games retain a dedicated following. This is partly due to its massive modding community, which reached its peak during the game’s original lifetime. Since the source code got released way back in 1997, it has opened up a whole new world of possibilities, essentially allowing anyone to examine the game’s code and create entirely new games. This is what we’ll be focusing on today, as we take a look at the top 10 games based on the classic Doom engine. And all of these are free! Let us begin.
