Double kill? Mega kill? No, ULTRAKILL!
The retro FPS renaissance continues unabated, with new titles in the style announced on a seemingly weekly basis. It’s tempting to say that the genre is getting tired, but the fusion of different styles and developer personal touches insures that things stay fresh and interesting. Case in point: ULTRAKILL.
It’s another upcoming shooter with janky physics and low-poly enemies, but this time the action and movement is heavily borrowed from the latter Doom games and even other titles like Bulletstorm. You take on the role of a robot killing other robots, but don’t think this makes the game kid friendly; ULTRAKILL’s robots are powered by blood, so expect this one to be as gory as anything we’ve seen previously.
Rather than navigating labyrinthine halls to hunt down keys, ULTRAKILL is more akin to locking you into arenas and dealing with onslaughts on enemies in the most stylish ways possible. The inclusion of hit-stop and crazy weapons all work together to make a delicious shooter smorgasbord. Keen to try it out right now? Click on over at itch.io to snatch up the current demo. Be warned that this is an early build, so things may get a bit… wonky.
If you’re keen on keeping up with the game’s development, be sure to wishlist it on Steam and follow its official page. In the meantime, check out the trailer below to whet your appetite.
