How to Catch Wisp Spirit Pieces and Obtain Rewards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

He’s more scared of you than you are of him!

Did you know that your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island is haunted? Yep, it’s true — don’t worry, it’s a friendly ghost, named Wisp, who enjoys wandering around your boo-tiful village. Want to know more about this visitor who’s passed beyond the veil and how to get interesting items for lending a helping hand? Read on, and we’ll explain how to catch spirit pieces for Wisp in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Wisp is one of the few visitors available from the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unlocked from the start, his visiting hours are from 8 PM until 5 PM the next day and shows up, rain or shine, any day of the week. He doesn’t like hanging around buildings too much, so be sure to look for him in areas where there aren’t too many buildings.

After finding him, interact with him, which will scare him so much that he’ll literally break into pieces. He’ll then ask you to comb the island to search for his five spirit pieces. You’ll need a net to do this, and you’ll be rewarded for your efforts.

After that, you’re good to go ghost hunting! The spirit pieces will be floating around the entire island, so be sure to search high and low for them while you’re taking care of other tasks. If you’re not seeing them immediately, try entering a building and exiting again to make them respawn in easier to see areas.

Upon catching a spirit piece, text appears to indicate how many you’ve caught; additionally, the spirit pieces show up in your inventory, so you don’t have to worry about keeping track in your head.

Once you’ve caught all five, head back over to where you first encountered Wisp and give him all his pieces back.

He’ll be so happy to be whole again — great job!

Now for your reward — Wisp will give you the option to choose from “something new” or “something expensive.” According to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Official Companion Guide, “something new” breaks down thusly:

If you have a tent:

  • Furniture: 75%
  • Wallpaper/Flooring: 0%
  • Bed: 0%
  • Clothing: 25%

If you have a house:

  • Furniture: 40%
  • Wallpaper/Flooring: 24%
  • Bed: 24%
  • Clothing: 12%

If you choose “something expensive,” Wisp will give you something with a buying price of up to 10,000 Bells. I chose this option and received a retro gas pump, so, y’know, it’s pretty hit or miss. In Wisp’s defense, he’s been a spirit for hundreds of years so he’s not really sure what the market value is on anything these days. Be careful what you “Wisp” for?

And just like that, Wisp will vanish. Spooooky!

And that’s how you catch spirit pieces for Wisp in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! What prize would you choose? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out the full Hey Poor Player Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guide hub for any other questions you may have!
