Time’s a wastin’!
In previous Animal Crossing games, the timer was perhaps the most overlooked tool — you either loved it or kept it in your home storage for in perpetuity — and the controversy continues in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This time, however, there’s promise for the oft-forgotten item, as online multiplayer is booming and makeshift fishing/bug-catching tourneys are great ways to have fun with friends. Of course, you’ll need a way to keep track of time, and what better tool than — you guessed it — the timer?
Here’s how to get the timer in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
First, make sure you have Nook’s Cranny upgraded. Check out our article here on how to get that taken care of.
Once you have Nook’s Cranny upgraded, head on over to the cabinet and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the items offered in the miscellaneous section. You’ll see the timer at the very bottom for a reasonably-priced 840 Bells.
Once you’ve made your purchase, you’re all set! You can now set your timer for 3, 5, 10, or 15 minutes. The timer will also keep track of how many bugs and fish you’ve caught and can be prematurely stopped if necessary. Since buying it doesn’t make it disappear from the cabinet, that’s a sure sign that, just like all the other tools, this one will break eventually as well (some sources say it’s a single use but we couldn’t recreate).
So, where do you fall on the great timer debate? Do you use this tool fairly regularly, or does it collect dust on the shelf? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out the full Hey Poor Player Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guide hub for any other questions you may have!
