Dotemu and Guard Crush Games today revealed a new Retro Mode for the upcoming brawler Streets of Rage 4.
Showcased in a trailer released by the publisher this morning, this mode significantly increases the game’s roster of playable characters, allowing you to take control of fan favorites from the Genesis trilogy, including Skate, Max, Dr. Zan, and Mr. X’s right-hand man, Shiva. Additionally, you’ll be able to use various sprites of returning characters Axel, Blaze, and Adam lifted from previous games in the series.
In addition to the retro character sprites, Streets of Rage 4’s Retro Mode will allow you to replace the soundtrack, which includes compositions by Olivier Derivière, Yoko Shimomura, and Keiji Yamagishi, with series composer Yuzo Koshiro, Motohiro Kawashima’s original 16-bit compositions from Streets of Rage 1 and 2.
Oh, last but not least, you’ll once again be able to call for backup from the police who will launch volleys of rocket fire from their cruiser as you could in the original Streets of Rage.
