In order to adhere to CDC guidelines on social distancing, DOOM Slayers get to go knee-deep in the dead a day early if they purchase the game at GameStop.
Amid growing safety concerns related to COVID-19 in North America, GameStop has decided to begin selling DOOM Eternal ahead of the game’s previously-scheduled March 20 launch.
The company announced plans to begin selling the game today on its official Twitter account saying, “To ensure we adhere to CDC-recommended social distancing guidelines, we will be selling DOOM Eternal a day early on Thursday, 3/19 as a safety precaution for our customers and associates.”
The company also confirmed that despite their decision to release DOOM: Eternal a day early, sales of Nintendo’s hugely anticipated Switch release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, will begin as planned on Friday, March 20.

This move comes at a time when the retailer is facing harsh criticism regarding their handling of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Corporate insiders recently came forward with allegations of corporate executives of lying about sanitation practices, not providing cleaning supplies to stores, and encouraging store management to capitalize on the current situation.
That being said, maybe venture out to grab DOOM Eternal at your own risk.
Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, DOOM Eternal’s official release date is March 20 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A Switch version of the game is currently in development courtesy of Panic Button Games and is slated to release later this year.
