LRG goes back long, long ago to a console generation far, far away to deliver another Sega CD release.
Less than 24 hours after announcing plans to release a special Collector’s Edition of the Sega CD version of The Secret of Monkey Island, publisher Limited Run Games has revealed they will be listing yet another Lucasfilm release for the trusty Genesis add-on.
This time around, retro-minded gamers are being treated to Rebel Assault. Developed by Lucasarts and Software Toolworks and initially released in 1993 on a plethora of CD-ROM platforms and PCs, the game is an FMV-based title set in the Star Wars universe featuring both space shooter segments and on-foot action. Rebel Assault will be making its way to LRG’s online storefront this Friday, February 28th and will be available in two batches at 10 AM and 6 PM ET.
Unlike the previously announced CE for The Secret of Monkey Island, it looks like Rebel Assault won’t be getting a wealth of goodies to go with it. The initial announcement posted to LRG’s social media accounts only mentions a custom plastic longbox and manual. Regardless, it’s cool to see the company showing the Sega CD so much love recently. Here’s hoping they branch out beyond Lucasfilm-owned properties, as I myself can imagine some pretty impressive LRG CEs for other Sega CD games, including Working Designs’ spectacular offerings Lunar: The Silver Star, Lunar: Eternal Blue, and Popful Mail.
So, what are your thoughts on LRG dabbing in the Sega CD market? Would you like to see them release games for other disc-based consoles like the Dreamcast, 3DO, and Neo Geo CD? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
