Arc System Works delivers retro beat-downs to glitch gremlins in Code Shifter, coming early this year to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
Arc System Works has announced that its upcoming action-platformer, Code Shifter, will be making its way to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in Q1 2020.
In Code Shifter, players assume the role of Stella, a game dev working for “Awesome Rainbow Corp.” Stella’s job is to sort out the last bugs on the eve of Rainbow Corp’s most ambitious release yet. However, as she races to get the game ready for launch, strange errors suddenly manifest. To combat the growing glitches, Stella writes a debug program known as “Code Shifter,” which allows her digital avatar “Sera” to enter the game and squash the bugs that have plagued her company’s magnum opus.
Code Shifter features an iconic cast of characters from Arc’s properties such as Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, the River City, who’ve been deconstructed into glorious 8-bit interpretations of themselves. In addition to the retro-inspired visuals, the soundtrack also features 8-bit renditions of familiar Arc compositions including “Give Me a Break” (Sol Badguy’s Theme), Bullet Dance (Noel Vermillion’s Theme), just to name a few.
