Bloom is a crazy fusion between Blood and Doom

I’m talking about Doom. Bloody, bloody Doom.

Doom and Blood are easily two of the most popular retro shooters. But have you ever wondered which one reigns supreme? Or have you been at a loss to decide which one to play? Probably not, but nonetheless this potential conundrum is eliminated by the hybrid that is Bloom.

Bloom is technically just a Doom mod, but it takes a ton of material from Blood and meshes it with Doom in bizarre and amusing ways. Players choose between Doomguy and Caleb, and each has their respective arsenal with some new additions. Gunplay is as gory and as fun as fun as ever. They work great on the “new” enemies, who feature from both games are stitched together to make new abominations. Levels use textures from both games and mix and match areas to make levels familiar yet new. The fact that it takes place in a desolate void full of level fragments only adds to the feeling that these two games have been shattered and then stuck back together.

The mod is currently in a pre-release state, though you may download a demo to play right now. It features a few levels from the upcoming campaign and can be played with vanilla Doom‘s levels if you want more. It’s hosted on ModDB, so check it out if you want to make your blood boil a little bit. While you wait for it to finish downloading, you may watch the trailer below to see what’s in store for you.
