Been influenced enough by manga to draw some Japanese-inspired work of your own? Viz Originals may be the next step for you — announced at Viz Media’s Emerald City Comic-Con panel, Viz Originals is the publication’s latest imprint featuring original manga-inspired graphic novels! As detailed on their official site, America’s largest manga purveyor is searching for ” dynamic paneling, skillful black-and-white artwork and compelling stories that keep readers hooked” to populate their upcoming line-up, with genres ranging from fantasy, adventure, romance, horror, sci-fi, and slice-of life.

While portfolio submissions aren’t ready just yet, an online portal’s scheduled by 2019’s end, and portfolio review sessions will be held across the country throughout the year. Stay tuned for further details!

Meanwhile, new licenses and long-awaited volume releases were also announced! As reported by Anime News Network, Gege Atsumi’s Jujutsu Kaisen — the hit exorcism/demon-hunting Shonen Jump title — will make its graphic novel debut this winter. Makoto Hagio’s A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow — an aquarium club slice-of-life series featuring girls’ love subtext — and An Incurable Case of Love — a romantic comedy featuring an aspiring nurse — should surely please the rom-com crowd, and VIZ also announced plans to reprint Kazuo Umezu’s classic horror manga The Drifting Classroom. Hailing from the 1970’s, this Perfect Edition will feature an updated localization within stylish hardcover.
