The rumors were true!

While many a Zelda fan hoped Game Boy’s masterpiece in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening would receive a Switch remake, how many thought a re-imagining would transform Link’s dream adventure into a living play set? In case you missed today’s Nintendo Direct, check out the trailer below:
If anything, the beginning’s animated cut-scene certainly set the stage for our subverted expectations — after that gorgeous set-piece, who would’ve thunk we’d witness a miniature beady-eyed Link hobbling about and batting away squeaky Octoroks? Of course, it’s a sensible direction upon reevaluating the Game Boy’s sprite-work; after all, the 1993 masterpiece’s cast were rather deformed too, weren’t they? We’d also like to think there’s obvious inspiration from 2013’s A Link Between Worlds and its “pick up and play” toy box look.
Regardless, this trailer and the accompanying art promo used as our header are all the information currently supplied for this Link’s Awakening remake. As noted in the headline, while it’s coming this year, but an exact date has yet to be confirmed. We’ll keep you updated on any developments!
