Falcom unveils Ys IX: Monstrum Nox with no sign of Adol Christin to be found
Falcom has announced that the next game in their long-running RPG saga, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, is currently under development and will release on the PlayStation 4 in Japan next year.
Revealed during the company’s December shareholders meeting, the game is being developed by the team responsible for Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana (read our review here). The game takes place in the massive prison city of Barduk, situated in the Glia Ertlingen region northeast of Esteria, the island from Ys Origin and Ys 1: Ancient Ys Vanished. As for the story, it will center around the “Monstrum,” people gifted with strange powers and the mysteries of the prison city itself.
While Falcom says the game will maintain the series signature mix of fast-paced combat and exploration, there will be new features including Guild Management and special Monstra abilities that can be used while on the field.
Curiously enough, as of right now it’s unclear as to whether or not the firey-haired swordsman Adol Christin will be returning as the main protagonist for Ys IX. The announcement screenshots only showcase two characters; a man in a blue uniform who wields dual swords, along with a fearsome looking pink-haired heroine. And the concept art (pictured above) showcases five characters who seem to be the main party, with none of which looking remotely like the franchise’s iconic protagonist.
So, are you excited for Ys IX? What are your thoughts on Adol’s possible absence from Falcom’s upcoming epic? As always, we love to hear what you think. Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
