For those just hearing about the mythical The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, here’s some backstory: according to Eurogamer, Eiji Aonuma paid a visit to The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert in Osaka, Japan and laid out the following tease: “I know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword for Switch, right?” Enthusiastic applause and rampant social media speculation ensues; after all, what better confirmation than the producer of Zelda himself?
Turns out, a tease was just a tease — after reaching out to Nintendo, Eurogamer received the following bit of curt PR: “At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch.” So much for that.
Or…is it? PR is PR, after all, and it’s not like as if Nintendo hasn’t denied upcoming releases in the past. (Remember when they denied a DS redesign not even a month before DSi’s reveal?) While we imagine a Skyward Sword HD would obviously take some retooling for Switch hardware, we’d certainly like to think the motion-control Joy-Cons would be compatible with its 1:1 swordplay. Perhaps a three-pack including the HD versions of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess would be ideal?
