When it comes to JRPGs on the Switch, Monolith’s long-awaited sequel Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the cream of the crop. In fact, it’s been so successful that even the game’s creator has been left in disbelief. In a recent telephone interview with USgamer, Monolith Soft’s Executive Director Tetsuya Takahashi gushed over the game’s impressive sales in the West and the traction the game’s latest DLC has managed to garner.

“From a sales perspective, I have to say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exceeded my expectations,” Takahashi told USgamer’s Nadia Oxford via a translator. “We really saw more people pick the game up and experience it in the North American and European territories than we thought would do so.”

While Torna: The Golden Country has only been available for a couple of weeks now, so far Takahashi seems pleased with its reception saying, “It’s still early days for the Torna DLC, but from what we’ve seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well.”

The third game in Monolith’s Xenoblade saga, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 released on December 1st, 2017 in North America. The new story expansion, Torna: The Golden Country, serves as a prequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Set across two sprawling titans, it adds 12-hours of fresh story content to the game along with an overhauled battle system.
