Sega’s localization team “taking fans’ opinions into consideration”
Just over a month ago, Sega brought Ryo Hazuki’s quest for revenge to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC with Shenmue 1 & 2. Unfortunately for those Switch owners hoping to get a taste of the action on their handy handheld-hybrid consoles, they were left in the cold. However, there may still be hope.
Speaking to 4Gamer, the game’s localization producer Eigo Kasahara and localization director Hiroji Noguchi left the door open for a possible Switch port. When told about Switch owners at a recent Sega Ages event clamoring for a Switch version of Shenmue 1 & 2 Noguchi said, “The fans have really shown their love for Shenmue – and for that, I really am grateful. Personally, I think it’d be great if you could play Shenmue on the Switch anywhere.” Kasahara added, “Whether or not we can do something like that in reality, we’re taking the fan’s opinions into consideration. Following up on that might take some time, but it’s definitely something I want to consider.”
Personally, I’d love to see Shenmue 1 & 2 make their way to the Nintendo Switch down the road. While admittedly the games haven’t aged particularly gracefully, the thought of being able to play a game of Lucky Hit or stalking sailors on the go sounds wonderful to me.
