Cultists, Monsters, & Scares – oh my!
With the game’s full release just over a month away, publisher Focus Home Interactive has released a new gameplay trailer for Cyanide Studios’ upcoming survival horror title, Call of Cthulhu.
The latest footage highlights some of the skills private investigator Edward Pierce will use as he examines the strange happenings unfolding on Darkwater Island. For example, the Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths will help Pierce gain insight into the world around him and unlock more answers to questions during conversations with the denizens of the island. Likewise, upgrading his Eloquence and Psychology paths will make it easier to glean helpful information from Darkwater’s tight-lipped locals and crazed cultists.
Medicine and Occultism skills can be upgraded with books and artifacts scattered throughout the world. However, this can serve as a double-edged sword. The more Pierce knows about the occult, the more his sanity will begin to slip away.
True to the game’s Lovecraftian roots, this battle between madness and sanity is a central theme in Call of Cthulhu. For example, Pierce is often challenged with overcoming seemingly impossible odds and must resort to sneaking around in the shadows. However, due to his claustrophobia and fear of the dark, this further causes him to slip into madness. That said, he’ll need to focus on keeping both your body and your mind intact over the course of your investigation.
